Prof. Dr. Vo Tong Xuan passed away at 7:27 a.m. on August 19, 2024, on July 16, Giap Thin year, at the age of 85. The coffin was buried at Can Tho City Funeral Home (Can Tho City Retirement Club, No. 30A, Mau Than Street, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City).
Recognized by Labor on the afternoon of August 20, many leaders of the central government, Can Tho City and the provinces of An Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang... along with representatives of universities, hospitals,... from all over came to visit Professor Vo Tong Xuan. Recalling memories with Professor Xuan, Mr. Vo Hong Thai (Can Tho City) expressed: "We used to be colleagues and neighbors when we were living in Area I of Can Tho University. In my memory, that day, even though Mr. Xuan was Vice Principal, he was still very sociable and close to everyone. I always remember the lesson he once told me, that when you meet anyone and they don't greet you, you should greet them back. This shows Mr. Xuan's hospitality to all generations," Mr. Thai said.

Ms. Liem added that the image she remembers most about Professor Xuan is when as a scientist, he still simply rolled up his pants to go look at rice with farmers. That is also the reason why many generations of students in the Mekong Delta region respect and admire him, calling him by the nickname "Rice Doctor".
According to the obituary, the burial ceremony is at 8:00 a.m. on August 22, 2024, on July 19, the year of Giap Thin. The coffin was buried in his hometown of Ba Chuc, Tri Ton, An Giang.
