On May 4, initial information showed that a herd of wild elephants of about 6-7 cows appeared in lot 17, compartment 5, sub-area 160 (in Hamlet 3, Ma Da commune, Vinh Cuu district) which is a contracted land of the people managed by the conservation area.
After that, people discovered a young elephant that had fallen into the well and reported it to the forest rangers. When the rangers were present at the scene to organize rescue, it was difficult to reach the scene because there were 4 other large elephants still walking around the well area.
After many hours, a large herd of elephants left the scene, and the rescue team had just reached the well area, but the elephants had died, lying under the well with a width of nearly 2m and a depth of 3.5m.
Recently, according to records, a herd of wild elephants including adult elephants and baby elephants appeared in the residential area of Hamlet 4, Ma Da, Vinh Cuu District to search for food. When seeing the elephant herd appear, some local people tried to chase the elephants back into the forest and reported it to the authorities of Ma Da commune and Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve.
