Regarding the traffic accident that occurred on Nguyen Huy Tu street more than a year ago, causing one death and one injury, the VTV program broadcast on the evening of August 17, 2026, said that functional agencies have investigated, verified and concluded to handle according to regulations.
According to functional agencies, the father and son were victims in the accident. The daughter died, the father was injured, and his health is currently relatively stable. The case was later handled and resolved by the Investigation Police Agency Office, Hanoi City Police. The handling results were notified to the victim's family.
However, recently, the case has been exploited by some organizations and individuals to post false and incitement information on cyberspace, affecting the security and order situation.
Mr. Do Viet Hung - the victim's father - said that the family thanked the community for their concern about the incident. However, he affirmed that the matter has been clearly resolved by the investigating agency and the family completely agrees with the investigation results, there are no complaints or questions about the handling of functional agencies.
During the investigation, Hanoi City Police coordinated with Hanoi City People's Procuracy to examine the scene, check vehicle traces, determine the direction of the collision and take statements from related people.
The verification results determined that the accident occurred because Mr. Nguyen Sy Cuong drove the vehicle in the wrong lane, in the wrong lane.
Colonel Nguyen Duc Long - Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police - said that the investigating agency has comprehensively assessed documents and evidence and determined that Mr. Nguyen Sy Cuong violated regulations on road traffic participation, as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 260 of the Penal Code.
According to Colonel Nguyen Duc Long, Mr. Nguyen Sy Cuong honestly confessed his actions and actively remedied the consequences. The victim's family acknowledged this, filed a request for exemption from criminal prosecution and requested functional agencies to soon conclude the case to stabilize their lives.
The investigation process also determined that Mr. Nguyen Sy Cuong had no alcohol concentration in his body at the time of the incident and had a full driver's license as prescribed.
Based on the collected documents and evidence and legal regulations, functional agencies determined that Mr. Nguyen Sy Cuong was eligible for exemption from criminal prosecution.
Mr. Ngo Hong Son - Deputy Director of the People's Procuracy of Hanoi City - said that immediately after the accident occurred, the Procuracy sent prosecutors to coordinate with the investigating agency and related units to examine the scene and collect documents.
Through supervising the procedural activities of the Investigation Police Agency of Hanoi City Police, the People's Procuracy of Hanoi City found that the investigation activities were carried out with grounds and in accordance with legal regulations.
Lawyer Nguyen Hong Bach - Hong Bach and Associates Law Firm - said that the law is applied uniformly to traffic accidents. When an incident occurs, the prosecuting agency must consider the actual conditions, actions and developments at the scene.
For cases specified in Clause 1, Article 260 of the Penal Code, the prosecuting agency will consider the conditions for applying the provisions on exemption from criminal prosecution. If the person causing the accident fully meets the conditions prescribed by law, the exemption from criminal prosecution is carried out according to regulations.

Representatives of the Ministry of Public Security said that the accident on Nguyen Huy Tu street has been resolved by functional agencies in accordance with the procedures and regulations of law and the victim's family agreed with the handling results.
However, recently, some organizations and individuals have taken advantage of the incident to post false, distorted, and inciting information on cyberspace.
Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, Chief of Office of the Ministry of Public Security, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, said that the Ministry of Public Security has detected activities of taking advantage and inciting riots by hostile and reactionary forces and bad actors.
According to Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, Viet Tan organization deliberately linked some isolated cases with other cases to influence and attract young people, students, causing security and order complications.
The Ministry of Public Security recommends that people be alert and raise their vigilance when receiving information in cyberspace; do not share unverified content and do not be drawn into activities that cause insecurity, disorder, and violations of the law.
On the family's side, Mr. Do Viet Hung said that after more than a year, his family's life is gradually returning to normal. He hopes that the case will be closed soon so that his family can continue to have a stable life.
