On the afternoon of August 16, representatives of Highway Traffic Police Team No. 4, Traffic Police Department, said that functional forces are handling a traffic accident that occurred on the North - South expressway section passing through Nghe An.
According to initial information, at about 11 am on the same day, a passenger car carrying dozens of people was traveling in the North - South direction. When it reached the area near the Vinh - Nam Dan intersection, the passenger car crashed into the rear of a container truck traveling in the same direction in front.
The strong collision damaged the front of the passenger car, and many passengers were injured and panicked.
About 20 people were taken to Nghe An 115 General Hospital, Nghe An Friendship General Hospital and some medical facilities for emergency treatment.
According to functional forces, among those hospitalized, there was one case of serious injury, the rest were mainly slightly injured.
A passenger said that at the time of the accident, this person was sitting in the car when he heard a loud collision, many passengers were thrown off their seats. Some people were scratched and dizzy after the incident.
Immediately after receiving the news, Highway Traffic Police Team No. 4 coordinated with relevant units to be present at the scene, organize rescue, take the injured to the emergency room and divert traffic.
The accident caused traffic on the expressway in the North-South direction through this area to be congested for a long time. Until about 2:20 pm, functional forces were still mobilizing vehicles to tow the crashed vehicles out of the scene, and at the same time organizing traffic diversion to reduce congestion.
The cause of the accident is being investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
