On August 21, informing reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Lai Van Duong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghia Loc Commune, Nghe An Province - said that the government had fined the pig farm owner in the area more than 61 million VND for illegally discharging waste into the environment.
Today, we continue to inspect and require the farm owner to strictly comply with regulations on waste treatment and environmental protection, Mr. Duong emphasized.

Previously, at around 9:30 p.m. on August 18, people in Khe Sai 2 hamlet, Nghia Loc commune, when passing through Khe Den stream discovered a strong stench. Dozens of people have been carrying lights in the rain, folding up the stream to check and catch pig farms in the area that are discharging waste directly into the stream using plastic pipes.
At the scene, the stream water was covered with white foam, turning dark black, giving off an unpleasant stench. People immediately reported it to the local authorities. That same night, Nghia Loc Commune Police and Economic Department experts went down to record the incident and make a record. The farm manager admitted to the discharge.
On the morning of August 19, upset about the pollution, people set up barriers on the neighborhood road to control whether the farm was transporting pigs to the farm or not. On the same afternoon, the commune government, the Fatherland Front and related sectors organized a dialogue with the people, listened to opinions and informed about the next steps.
Mr. Tran Thanh - local resident - said that the above pig farm has caused environmental pollution many times and has been administratively sanctioned many times, but the farm owner continues to violate and also expands the scale of livestock farming.
"We suggest that local authorities must take drastic and thorough measures, not punish and then let them exist, which greatly affects people's lives" - Mr. Thanh said indignantly.
