Dak Lak - Representatives of Hoang Viet School have provided information related to the case of dozens of students hospitalized suspected of food poisoning.

On July 11, Hoang Viet Primary, Secondary and High School (abbreviated as Hoang Viet School, Dak Lak province) announced information about the investigation and verification conclusion report of the Provincial Department of Health related to the case of some students showing abnormal health signs and having to go to medical facilities for examination and treatment.

Many children with symptoms suspected of food poisoning have had to go to some medical facilities in the area for treatment. Up to now, most of the children have been discharged from the hospital.

According to the school, on the morning of July 3, from about 7:30 am to before 11 am, when students participated in the summer school program, some students showed symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, nausea or vomiting.

Immediately after discovering the incident, the school coordinated with parents to take students to medical facilities for examination and treatment; at the same time, reported to the Provincial Department of Health and coordinated with functional agencies in the process of investigation and verification.

According to the conclusion report of the Department of Health, the incident involved 28 students who had to be treated at medical facilities.

By the time the conclusion was issued, 27 students had been discharged from the hospital, the remaining cases were in stable health, and no deaths were recorded.

During the incident, the school said that it regularly visited, coordinated care and paid all examination and treatment costs for students who had to be hospitalized.

Through actual inspection, the Department of Health determined that the school's collective kitchen is arranged with areas for receiving ingredients, preliminary processing, processing and dividing meals according to the principle of no cross-contamination. The three-step inspection and food sample storage are carried out according to regulations...

According to the professional conclusion of the Department of Health, the collective kitchen served 2,124 lunches on July 2. This meal was identified as related to the incident, in which the egg roll was identified as the cause.

Test results revealed Salmonella spp. bacteria in the saved egg roll sample, and also recorded two cases with positive specimens for Salmonella spp..

Specialized agencies determined that the suspected cause was Salmonella spp. infection from processed food containers.

The conclusion was drawn on the basis of summarizing the results of epidemiological investigation, field investigation, testing of the person directly processing, testing of food samples, testing of specimens, clinical manifestations and the onset time of related cases.

Representatives of Hoang Viet School said that the unit has seriously received the conclusions and recommendations of the Department of Health.

Immediately after the incident, the school comprehensively reviewed the food safety management system, from the selection, reception of raw materials, preliminary processing, processing, preservation, meal distribution to serving students.

At the same time, the school strengthens hygiene and disinfection of tools and equipment; tightens control of raw materials, especially food of animal origin; supplements inspection, supervision, traceability and risk handling procedures to improve the safety level for collective kitchens. These are also the contents that the Department of Health requests the school to continue to implement to prevent similar incidents.
