Quang Tri - Traffic volume on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway increases as people return to their hometowns for Tet. This expressway is being expanded, so the maximum speed is 50km/h.

On February 11, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, the investor of the Cam Lo - La Son expressway expansion project, said that the 97.6km long route is under construction to expand from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, so it is necessary to adjust the operating speed to ensure traffic safety.

Previously, the maximum speed on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway was 80km/h. When expanding construction began, the proposed plan reduced it to 70km/h; especially the sections under construction are only 50km/h.

However, due to concerns about the risk of unsafety when vehicles circulate interspersed in the construction area, relevant units have agreed to adjust the maximum speed on the entire route to 50km/h. The route does not stipulate a minimum speed.

Records at the beginning of the route through Hieu Giang commune (Quang Tri province) on February 11 show that the traffic volume of cars in both directions increased compared to normal days. Although the maximum speed limit of 50km/h has been installed, there is still a situation where some cars run fast, even overtaking at the no-overtaking section. At times, the line of cars stretches, especially in the direction from the South.

On the route, many locations have been barricaded for expansion construction. The contractor is defoliating and expanding the roadbed on both sides. At points where construction vehicles enter and exit, the construction unit arranges warning signs to remind drivers to pay attention to observation.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Thuong - Head of Highway Traffic Police Team No. 5, under the Traffic Police Department - said that the unit will strengthen patrols and inspections, and even arrange specialized motorbikes to promptly handle arising situations.

In the context of increased traffic volume during people returning to their hometowns for Tet, functional forces focus on inspection and supervision to limit accidents. Highway Traffic Police Team No. 5 recommends that people strictly comply with speed regulations because the route is being upgraded and the infrastructure is not yet complete. In case of incidents, people can contact for support and guidance.

At the same time, the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway section connecting Hue City with Da Nang also applies a maximum speed of 50km/h until the end of March 2026. This route prohibits passenger cars with 9 seats or more and trucks with 5 tons or more from circulating; traffic hours are from 5 am to 4 pm daily.

Thus, a total of more than 160km of the expressway from Da Nang to Quang Tri is currently limited to a maximum speed of 50km/h, without minimum speed limits during the upgrade and expansion to 4 lanes.
