On September 18, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Trung - Head of the Traffic Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police said that on National Highway 9, there are currently 2 points with potential risks to traffic safety: Tan Lien Market (Tan Lap Commune) and Tan Long Market (Lao Bao Commune).
After the tragic accident at Tan Long market that killed 3 people, the Traffic Police force coordinated with the police of communes across the province to increase propaganda and mobilize people not to gather at market along the road, not to violate traffic safety corridors. At the same time, he will closely coordinate with other functional forces to strictly handle cases of intentional violations.
In fact, over the years, the situation of people parking cars, selling bananas and goods along National Highway 9 through Tan Long Market has become popular.
Local people said that encroachment makes the narrow road even more dangerous, even a small mistake can cause accidents, especially when trucks, passenger cars, and containers travel through the area.
The local government has repeatedly proposed building a centralized banana market to solve this situation. However, due to problems with commercial market planning and land use planning, the project has not yet been implemented.
A representative of Tan Lap commune said that Tan Lien market has just completed the construction of a new one. The commune has just received and is in the process of establishing a Market Management Board, along with auctioning the stalls to put them into operation.
Mr. Phan Phong Phu - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province said that the province is directing relevant agencies to urgently review and complete procedures to soon deploy the construction of a centralized market, both meeting livelihood needs and ensuring traffic safety.
Major General Nguyen Thanh Liem - Director of Quang Tri Provincial Police emphasized that he has directed the forces to resolutely rectify and not let the situation of encroachment on the roadside continue to recur. At the same time, people are required to follow the instructions of the authorities when participating in traffic to avoid the risk of serious accidents recurring.
The synchronous coordination between the government, functional forces and the consensus of the people is considered a fundamental solution, aiming to restore order and safety on key routes, especially in the Tan Long market and Tan Lien market areas.
