On August 23, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee issued an official dispatch announcing the handling of people building solid houses on agricultural land under the authority of commune-level People's Committees.
Previously, in communes such as Kbang, Kong Bo La, To Tung, Son Lang, Dak Rong and Krong, some households built permanent houses on agricultural land.
According to current land law regulations, agricultural land is not allowed to arbitrarily build houses.
To build a legal house on this land, usually it is necessary to change the land use purpose from agricultural land to residential land and be permitted by a competent authority.
The construction of solid houses on agricultural land for wrong land use purposes risks affecting the planning and land use plans of the locality.
Gia Lai Department of Agriculture and Environment has reported No. 566/BC-SNNMT dated July 31, 2026 to the Provincial People's Committee, proposing to handle the situation of solid houses built on agricultural land.
However, the Provincial People's Committee concluded that this matter is under the authority of the People's Committees of communes.
The province requests departments, functional sectors and communes mentioned above to have remedial solutions in accordance with the law.
Over the past time, along with stabilizing and operating the commune-level government smoothly and effectively, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has also promoted decentralization and delegation of power to localities; assigning specific responsibilities and results, and work products to heads of agencies and units, such as the Secretary and Chairman of the Commune People's Committee.
