On August 23, the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command informed that from June 11 to now, the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains has coordinated with agencies, units and localities to organize surveys and searches in the K30 Fortress area.
During the search, functional forces discovered a mass grave, inside which were 7 sets of martyrs' remains and some related artifacts.
Fort K30 is an area that once witnessed fierce battles in the fight to protect the northern border of the Fatherland in 1979.
The discovery and repatriation of 7 sets of remains of martyrs here contributes to supplementing information about officers and soldiers who fought and sacrificed in the years of protecting border sovereignty.
Notably, clues about the location of the mass grave were provided by Mr. Do Van Chung (born in 1965, residing in Hong Son residential group, Lao Cai ward). From the information of this witness, functional agencies conducted surveys, verification, organized searches and excavations.
However, after the gathering, the identities of the 7 martyrs have not yet been determined. This is an important task to bring the martyrs back to their names, homeland and families after many years lying on the battlefield.
To serve the verification, search for relatives and identify the names of martyrs, the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command requests agencies, units, veterans, historical witnesses, relatives of martyrs and people to provide information related to the K30 Fortress area or martyrs who fought and worked here.
According to the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command, each piece of information, no matter how small, can become an important clue to help functional agencies compare dossiers, verify units, hometowns and relatives of martyrs.
