On September 29, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province confirmed that since October 2023, after the 4th inspection by the European Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU), the authorities in Quang Tri province have strictly punished violating fishing vessels.
Accordingly, during the inspection process, 51 cases of administrative violations were discovered, including 9 cases of disconnection from the fishing vessel monitoring system but not sending the correct location, including 1 fishing vessel from another province and 8 fishing vessels in the province.
The total fine for 51 violations was more than 415 million VND, with 40 cases fined by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Inspectorate and 11 cases fined by the Quang Tri Border Guard.
It is known that the total number of fishing vessels in Quang Tri province as of September 25 is 2,648, with a total capacity of 147,952 horsepower. Of which, 1,872 fishing vessels are under 6m in length; 776 fishing vessels are 6m or longer; 42 are unregistered; 734 are registered, reaching a rate of 94.58%. Regarding the "3 no" fishing vessels, 304/346 fishing vessels have been registered, reaching a rate of 87.86%, and fishing licenses have been granted to 198 fishing vessels out of 304 registered vessels.
As of September 25, there were 192 fishing vessels at high risk of violating illegal fishing regulations.
Mr. Ha Sy Dong - Permanent Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee - said that in order to contribute to the whole country in removing the "yellow card" of the European Committee for Vietnamese seafood exported to the European market, the work of combating IUU fishing in the province has been vigorously implemented. The authorities have focused on disseminating regulations against IUU fishing, and at the same time strictly punishing cases of intentional violations.
