At about 20:15 on July 17, Dakrong Commune Police, Quang Tri Province received a report of a serious accident in Lang Cat Duoi Village (Dakrong Commune, Quang Tri Province). A container truck suddenly plunged off National Highway 9, fell into a ravine about 70m deep, near a stream, and had not been identified at the beginning.
Dakrong Commune Police immediately deployed forces to the scene, and reported to Dakrong Traffic Police Station and the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police.
While waiting for the specialized forces to arrive, the Commune Police coordinated with the Security and Order team, the village chief and the youth of Lang Cat village to clear the road down to the abyss. At the scene, the front of the container truck was crushed, the cabin was buried in rocks and soil.
After searching, the authorities discovered the driver alive and trapped in the cabin. At the scene, the forces urgently scraped rocks and soil, broke the ventilation glass, provided first aid, kept in touch and reassured the driver.
Immediately after approaching the scene, the Commune Police organized initial scene protection and provided first aid to the driver. The Traffic Police and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police quickly arrived. Medical forces, Bao Khanh rescue vehicles and specialized vehicles were mobilized to the maximum.
The terrain was harsh, it was dark, container trucks were close to the edge of the stream, soldiers had to use headlights, ropes, specialized equipment and coordinate closely to ensure the safety of the victims and rescue forces.
After nearly 9 hours of efforts throughout the night, at 4:30 a.m. on July 18, driver Nguyen Trung The (born in 1990, residing in Hai Phong) was taken out of the cabin in an injured condition. The units immediately transferred the victim to the emergency room and notified the family.
According to information from the traffic police, at that time, driver Nguyen Trung The was driving a container trailer with license plate 34H-058.xx pulling a trailer 34R-005.xx moving in the direction of Lao Bao - Dong Ha. When reaching Km56 National Highway 9, the vehicle suddenly lost control, plunged out of the right guardrail and fell into a 70m deep ravine.
The scene is still being protected, vehicle rescue and road clearance work continues to be carried out. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
