Parking seems simple but can make tires wear out quickly if done incorrectly

Many drivers only care about tire pressure and ignore parking, while this habit also affects tire wear.

Many drivers believe that just putting the car in the parking area, pulling the brakes and leaving is enough. However, improper parking habits for a long time can cause tires to wear off unevenly, affecting operation and generating unnecessary repair costs.

According to a technician at Ninety Eight Auto Repair, Maintenance and Care Center (Cat Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the first thing to pay attention to is to maintain tire pressure according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

If tires are inflated too weakly, when the car parks for a long time, the tires will be deformed, and the two shoulders of the tires will bear more load, so they will wear out quickly. Conversely, if inflated too hard, the middle part of the tire surface will bear a greater force and wear out faster. Both cases cause tires to wear out evenly, making the car easily overturned when moving.

Next, drivers should limit parking on sloping roads for long periods. When the car is tilted to one side, the weight will be heavily concentrated on the two wheels on the lower side. Over time, these tires will be heavier load-bearing, leading to rapid wear and unevenness compared to the remaining wheels.

When parking for a long time, try to steer straight instead of letting the steering wheel rotate fully to the left or right. This helps reduce pressure on the tires and suspension, while limiting sideshift wear.

Ninety Eight Auto also recommends that if the car has to be parked for many weeks or months, the car owner should move a few meters or change the parking position periodically to avoid a point on the tire that is always load-bearing.

Luggage or heavy goods also increase the load on the tires, especially the rear tires, making them easily deformed and wear out faster. Therefore, users should not leave heavy vehicles when parked for a long time.

Before long trips or when frequently carrying a lot of luggage, it is necessary to check tire pressure and adjust according to the manufacturer's recommendations to reduce the risk of uneven tire wear and prolong tire life.

Just changing a few small habits when parking, drivers can extend tire life, help the car operate more stably and save significant maintenance and replacement costs later.
