This is a milestone marking Honda's 76 years of operation in the two-wheeled vehicle manufacturing sector, including motorbikes and large-displacement motorbikes.
Honda started expanding production outside of Japan in 1963 with its first factory in Belgium. To date, the group has established a global production network of 37 factories in 23 countries and territories, with a capacity of more than 20 million vehicles per year and a distribution system of about 30,000 dealers.
Notable milestones in Honda's development include: 100 million vehicles in 1997, 200 million vehicles in 2008, 300 million vehicles in 2014 and 400 million vehicles in 2019. Despite the temporary impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company's motorbike output has quickly recovered afterwards.
In addition to cars using internal combustion engines, from 2024, Honda will start to promote its electric motorbike development strategy globally, expanding its product portfolio to meet the energy transition trend and the need to use environmentally friendly vehicles.
In Vietnam, Honda Vietnam (HVN) - a joint venture between Honda Motor Japan, Asian Honda and domestic partners - has contributed nearly 40 million vehicles to a total global output of 500 million vehicles. After nearly 30 years of operation, HVN said it will continue to expand its product portfolio, invest in technology and develop electric vehicles, in parallel with the goal of carbon neutrality and promoting sustainable development in the Vietnamese market.
