In 2024, US automakers recalled tens of millions of vehicles to address safety issues. After 3 consecutive years, this year, Ford is no longer the "reversal king" of defective vehicles because Stellantis Group has taken the lead with 67 recalls. If counting the number of defective vehicles called for repair, Tesla is the leader in the entire US market with nearly 5.14 million vehicles, while Stellantis is second with more than 4.72 million vehicles.
According to the data, Tesla has the fewest recalls in the top 10 automakers, but has the most defective vehicles in the entire US market. For Ford, the number of recalls this year is higher than last year, but the number of defective vehicles is lower.

The 4th place in the rankings may surprise many people when Honda and its subsidiary Acura have 18 recall campaigns related to 3.8 million vehicles, making these 2 brands far ahead of GM's 5th place with 33 recalls affecting 1.9 million vehicles.
According to NHTSA, a reversal of locations occurred in the last days of 2024, when Kia moved from 8th to 7th place, surpassing Toyota when it had to call back 22,883 EV9 electric vehicles for repairs due to a lack of bolts in the second and third seats.
In total, the entire US auto industry had to recall 8.65 million vehicles last year. In particular, Tesla continued to win the No. 1 spot with the largest individual recall (2,19 million vehicles at the beginning of the year) due to the size of the front warning light not being standard.
Ford came in second with a recall involving nearly 1.9 million vehicles, as the A-pillar case of the 2011-2019 Explorer model may have fallen. Next, Tesla appears in 3rd place with another recall involving nearly 1.85 million vehicles, as the software may not detect the unlocked hood.
