The Hummer H1 is a large off-road vehicle with 4-wheel drive, developed based on the M998 Humvee military vehicle prototype. This model was produced by AM General Company during the AM General period, which was also a subsidiary of American Motors Corporation.
Initially, the Hummer H1 was designed for military purposes, and was later commercialized for the civil market since 1992.
The production of the civil version of the Hummer H1 lasted until 2006. These models were assembled at AM General's factory in Indiana (USA). In 2006, General Motors announced the suspension of Hummer H1 production due to new emissions regulations for diesel engines that took effect in 2007. Vehicles produced in the final year are equipped with more powerful engines along with improved fuel consumption, about 24 liters/100 km.
Hummer H1 has had 3 popular versions including the softtop version, 4-door sports car and Alpha Wagon version. The company has also introduced less common variants such as a 2-door pickup truck and a 4-door slantback body in military style. The versions for individual consumers are mainly the softtop and SUV.
The Hummer H1 Alpha appearing in Vietnam is the most premium version. The car is equipped with a 6.6-liter V8 Duramax turbocharged diesel engine, producing 300 horsepower and a maximum torque of 705 Nm, accompanied by a 5-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to this engine, the Hummer H1 Alpha has impressive off-road performance, can wade up to 762 mm deep and have a ground clearance of 406 mm.
