90 days and nights of free health check-ups for more than 3.3 million people in Vinh Long

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - Universal free health screening is implemented in 90 days and nights, striving to examine more than 3.3 million people and establish electronic health records.

Proactively examine, not missing people

The "90 days and nights" campaign of free health screening for all people in Vinh Long takes place from November 11 to November 9, 2026, aiming to bring proactive health care activities to each citizen.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of Vinh Long Department of Health said that the campaign aims to bring proactive health care activities closer to people, early detection of disease risks and long-term health management.

According to Ms. Hang, the health sector needs to strongly shift from the mindset of waiting for people to get sick to proactively approach, screen and provide health advice right in the community. "Not waiting for people to get sick to go to the hospital, but to proactively get closer to the people," she said.

The Director of Vinh Long Department of Health said that each examination must help people understand their health status, identify risks and be guided to monitor and treat appropriately. The health sector does not just stop at detecting diseases.

To make the campaign effective, provincial hospitals, regional general hospitals and health stations implement the "5 clear" motto: clear people, clear tasks, clear responsibilities, clear time, clear results; localities classify subjects to organize examinations.

According to BS.CK2 Nguyen Quoc Phuc - Head of Planning - Finance Department, Vinh Long Department of Health, Plan No. 287/KH-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee sets a target to serve more than 3.3 million people.

The total cost of implementing the program is expected to be more than 1,300 billion VND, of which the examination cost norm does not exceed 350,000 VND/person/time/year. The funding is mobilized from many sources according to each target group.

After examination, health counseling and management must be provided.

During the implementation period, children under 6 years old and people with meritorious services to the revolution will be mobilely examined; students will be examined on the occasion of the opening of the 2026-2027 school year. Elderly people, poor and near-poor households will be examined by area, limiting omissions.

Participants are physically checked, clinically examined and undergo essential paraclinical tests, including blood tests, urine tests and direct cardiopulmonary X-rays, to detect early health risks.

Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang said that the health sector pays special attention to the post-examination stage, because screening results are only truly meaningful when people are guided on subsequent health care.

Do not abandon consulting people after examination, do not let the examination end immediately. People must know their health status and be specifically guided," emphasized the Director of Vinh Long Department of Health.

According to Ms. Hang, after examination, people must be consulted, risk stratification, managed at grassroots health facilities or transferred to a higher level in time when serious illness is detected. Examination results must also be digitally signed and updated to the system within 24 hours, forming an Electronic Health Record.

As of 10:00 AM on August 7, the whole province has recorded more than 1.33 million people examined, reaching nearly 40% of the population. Currently, there are 59 facilities eligible to participate in the campaign, including 33 public facilities and 26 private facilities.

Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang said that the 90-day and night campaign helps people proactively check their health, while creating a digital health management platform, towards a life expectancy of 75.5 years, including 68 years of healthy life.

The Director of Vinh Long Department of Health also requested people to proactively arrange time to participate, bring citizen identification cards with chips and smartphones to be supported to update health information.

The health sector does not miss people, does not miss consulting people after examinations and does not miss data. Each citizen's active participation will contribute to building a healthier community," Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang added.
