From August 1st, Bach Mai Hospital will start providing medical services outside of regular working hours at K1 - the Department of Medical Services on Demand. This means a large number of doctors, nurses, and medical staff will be working extra shifts and longer hours to meet the needs of many patients.
Regarding ensuring the rights of workers, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital shared with Lao Dong reporters: Doctors and nurses who wish to work overtime will register on a voluntary basis.
From there, the hospital will allocate manpower according to shifts to ensure health, balance between work and family, and also provide time for rest and recovery.
According to Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co, as of July 30th, 2,056 doctors and medical staff at the hospital have voluntarily registered to work outside of regular working hours. Among them, many professors, associate professors, and doctors with high expertise have signed up to provide medical services.
In fact, many doctors are willing to close their private clinics to work at the hospital. "The institution will have appropriate policies to ensure that doctors feel secure in their work. They will be better protected legally and have better benefits than at private clinics," Mr. Co said.
The hospital's leadership commits that the revenue during evening hours, after fulfilling financial obligations to the State and the hospital, will be converted into income for the workers directly involved in providing medical services. This is a legitimate and legal additional income for all voluntary participants.
Each day, Bach Mai Hospital receives between 8,000 to 10,000 patients for medical services. The common mentality of Vietnamese people is to seek medical services early in the morning at the beginning of the week, "early check-up, early results, early completion."
According to the Director of Bach Mai Hospital, after-hours medical services still include all specialties and diagnostic tests, imaging as during regular working hours, with no change in costs.
Since the beginning of 2024, Bach Mai Hospital has inaugurated and put into use a series of modern medical equipment systems including 4 MRI machines, 3 multi-slice CT scanners, 19 gastrointestinal endoscopy systems, and 7 laparoscopic surgery systems.
"With the addition of 4 MRI machines, this is the first time in history that Bach Mai Hospital has 7 MRI machines operating simultaneously, allowing patients with MRI indications to be scanned on the same day without waiting," Associate Professor Dr. Dao Xuan Co said.
