Da Nang Hospital develops emergency treatment plan for food poisoning during Tet

Da Nang - Da Nang Hospital deploys a plan to be ready to be on duty to promptly handle food poisoning situations during Tet.

Avoid poisoning during Tet

During Tet days, family meals are often filled with protein and fat-rich dishes. However, improper storage or an unbalanced diet will be harmful to health. Doctor Le Huu Huan - Department of Gastroenterology, Da Nang Hospital - has set out 3 principles to avoid food poisoning.

The first and most important principle is to control the temperature and separate food. Dr. Huan emphasized the need to completely separate raw and cooked food to avoid cross-contamination. For processed but unused food, it is necessary to cover it tightly and let it cool before putting it in the refrigerator. In particular, when wanting to reuse it, people must absolutely not eat it immediately but must boil or heat it thoroughly to kill bacteria that may arise during storage.

The second principle is balance in the diet. Reality shows that many people often focus too much on meat dishes, banh chung, sticky rice and forget green vegetables. Doctors recommend that in each meal, 50% of food should be vegetables, tubers, and fruits. Supplementing with plenty of filtered water is also very important, helping the liver and kidneys detoxify the body better after consuming a large amount of calories.

Finally, the third principle is to limit alcohol and beer. People need to control their own alcohol consumption and absolutely do not use alcohol of unknown origin, alcohol soaked in the wrong process to avoid the risk of acute liver failure and kidney failure.

24/24h on-duty

Besides the risk of digestion, this Tet holiday also faces cold weather and flu epidemics showing signs of breaking out. To proactively respond, Da Nang Hospital has developed a detailed plan, ensuring that human resources and medical supplies are always ready. According to BS.CK2 Nguyen Thanh Trung - Deputy Director of Da Nang Hospital, the unit has organized a meeting and assigned specific duty schedules according to 4 levels: leadership duty (Board of Directors), leadership duty of departments and rooms, professional duty and mobile emergency teams.

This decentralization is to ensure that in any situation, from individual emergency care to collective poisoning cases or mass emergency care due to accidents, the hospital has the most timely handling plan. In particular, the coordination process between the Emergency Department and clinical departments has been carefully reviewed. The Department of Tropical Medicine has also been strengthened with personnel to cope with winter-spring infectious diseases.

In parallel with human resources, the Pharmacy Department and the Medical Supplies Department have fully stockpiled medicines, intravenous fluids and support equipment for the worst situations. Doctors warn that the pressure on patients during Tet at leading hospitals such as Da Nang is very high, especially in severe cases such as acute pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding due to alcohol abuse. Therefore, careful preparation from the hospital and awareness and proactive health protection will help people welcome a peaceful and healthy Binh Ngo Tet season.
