The pregnant woman, V.T.B.N (32 years old, from Tien Giang province), was in the last month of her pregnancy and was traveling by taxi back to her hometown. On the way from Tien Giang to Can Tho, when she reached Can Tho bridge, she suddenly started bleeding heavily.
Luckily, at that time, the Traffic Police of Can Tho City Police were on patrol, so they sent a car to take the pregnant woman immediately to Can Tho City Maternity Hospital for timely emergency care.
The hospital's obstetricians and anesthesiologists examined and consulted, determining that the mother was giving birth for the third time, 38.4 weeks pregnant, cephalic position, central placenta previa, and heavy vaginal bleeding.
Immediately, the mother underwent a cesarean section with the coordination of the Obstetrics - Pediatrics and anesthesia resuscitation team. The baby boy weighed 3,380 grams, was born safely and successfully preserved the mother's uterus. Currently, the mother's health is well controlled and the baby is receiving intensive care at the hospital.
Specialist Doctor II Nguyen Ha Ngoc Uyen - Head of the Emergency Department, Can Tho City Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital - said that recently, the hospital has received and successfully treated many critical emergency cases from provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, including many diseases that previously required transfer to higher levels, taking a lot of time and posing many potential risks to both mother and baby.
Doctor Ngoc Uyen recommends that if a pregnant woman is in the last month of pregnancy and is diagnosed with central placenta previa, she should limit long-distance travel to avoid the risk of unexpected bleeding. In particular, if the pregnant woman experiences any symptoms such as vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain or unusual contractions, she should immediately contact her doctor or go to the nearest medical facility.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, at 1:40 p.m. on October 10, a working group from the Traffic Police Department of Can Tho City Police was patrolling and controlling on National Highway 1 when they encountered a taxi driver traveling from Tien Giang Province to Can Tho City asking for help for a pregnant woman traveling alone, whose water had broken, and was in a dangerous condition.
After checking and realizing the critical situation, the task force commander assigned Lieutenant Colonel Mai Hong Phong to use a specialized motorbike to guide the taxi carrying the pregnant woman to Can Tho Maternity Hospital for timely emergency care, ensuring the safety of both mother and baby.
