Joy from free medical examinations
During the Military-Civilian Tet associated with the Chol Chnam May Tet, many activities to care for the lives of Khmer people are organized in Tra Con commune, Vinh Long province.
Ms. Thach Thi Sa Ray, Tra Con commune, said that she is one of the poor households invited to visit at the Commune People's Committee. Here, she was checked for health, consulted on treatment and given free medicine.
According to Ms. Sa Ray, she used to make a living by selling lottery tickets, but for more than a year now she has been at home due to frequent headaches and dizziness, unable to travel far.
My family now mainly relies on my husband's hired work, my two children are still in school, so it is also very difficult. Life is still difficult and lacking," Ms. Sa Ray added.

Mr. Ta Van Luc, Tra Con commune, is also a poor household, living alone. Every month, he receives a support of 500,000 VND from the locality, making ends meet, and is occasionally helped by philanthropists.
Being examined and receiving free medicine, Mr. Luc was very happy. "I am old, I don't have the conditions to travel far, now being examined in the locality makes me feel very warm," he said.
Many people expressed their desire that the program will be maintained regularly, helping them have better health care conditions and reduce the burden of costs in daily life.
Continue to mobilize community health care
Ms. Ho Thi Danh, Tra Con commune, said that living alone and facing economic difficulties, she has little opportunity to go for medical examination. Being supported with free medical examination and medicine distribution makes her very excited.
Thanks to the program, I was checked for health and received free medicine. I hope that in the future there will be more delegations coming to the locality to better support people," Ms. Danh shared.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ha Van Thanh Khuong - Chairman of Tra Con Commune People's Committee, said that the whole commune has more than 10,000 households with over 45,000 people, of which about 19% are Khmer ethnic people.

Health care for people, especially Khmer people and households in difficult circumstances, is always concerned and implemented by the locality in many practical and effective forms.
Mr. Khuong also informed that 300 people have been health checked, given free medicine and 200 gifts handed to people.
The activity not only contributes to taking care of health but also spreads the spirit of sharing, creating joy and excitement in the community, especially for people in difficult circumstances during Tet," Mr. Khuong added.
