Da Nang residents change exercise hours when it's cold

Da Nang - The temperature in Da Nang dropped sharply accompanied by cold winds, causing many people, especially the elderly, to have to change exercise time frames.

Changing training hours to "avoid" extreme cold

In recent days, the weather in the Central region, especially Da Nang, has had unusual developments. In mountainous areas such as Tra Linh, temperatures recorded at times dropping to 1 degree Celsius. Right in the center of Da Nang city, the temperature is also maintained at a low level, fluctuating from 17 to 18 degrees Celsius in the early morning, accompanied by strong cold winds. This sudden weather change has directly affected people's living and training habits.

In parks and public areas, instead of the bustling atmosphere from 5 am as usual, the number of people exercising at this time has now decreased significantly. Many elderly people have proactively moved the training time to the afternoon or when the weather is already warm to ensure safety.

Ms. Ngoc (65 years old, residing in Da Nang) shared that she used to have a habit of going to the park to exercise from early morning. However, when the weather became deeply cold, she decided to switch completely to the afternoon. "I am old, so I am very afraid of this weather. Going out in the early morning, the weather is freezing cold, drafts are very easy to cause strokes. Now, I choose to go in the afternoon to be warm. Before leaving home, I also regularly drink a glass of warm water and do gentle movements right in the house to warm up my body before going out to the outside environment," Ms. Ngoc said.

This change is not only adaptation but also a way to protect yourself from potential health risks when the weather is harsh.

Warning of increased risk of stroke and respiratory diseases

According to records from Da Nang Hospital, the number of patients hospitalized due to seasonal flu and pneumonia tends to increase slightly compared to the same period last year. The highest proportion still accounts for the elderly and people with underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma. These are groups with weaker immune systems and poorer ability to adapt to sudden temperature changes than young people.

Master, Doctor Tran Minh Huy (Da Nang Hospital) warned: "At the intersection of seasons, the temperature in the early morning is usually very low. Sudden temperature changes when patients are in a warm room and move immediately out can lead to dangerous consequences. The most common condition during this period is stroke, or acute respiratory diseases such as flu, pneumonia". The large temperature difference between the indoor and outdoor environment causes blood vessels to suddenly contract, putting pressure on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

To prevent these risks, doctors recommend that people, especially the elderly, should not exercise too early when the sun has not risen and the temperature is still too low. They should wait until sunshine, the temperature gradually increases so that the body can easily adapt. In addition, keeping the body warm, wearing a mask and supplementing adequate nutrition is extremely necessary. To support the community, Da Nang Hospital also plans to soon deploy vaccination against flu and respiratory diseases in the coming time to strengthen people's immunity, helping to proactively respond to epidemics in the cold season.

It's a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit.
