In the first 7 months of this year, statistics from Can Tho Children's Hospital show that the fever situation has increased sharply compared to the same period in 2024. The total number of dengue fever cases treated as inpatients at hospitals received inside and outside Can Tho City is 554 cases, an increase of 51% over the same period last year; of which the number of cases with severe dengue fever is 59 cases, an increase of 34% over the same period last year.

Doctor Nguyen Huynh Nhat Truong - Head of the Dengue Fever Department, Can Tho Children's Hospital - informed that at this time, dengue fever at the Department has no signs of cooling down, the disease is much more severe than at the time 1 month ago.
According to Dr. Truong, dengue fever is often recorded in young children under 16 years old, in which the age of severe illness is usually from 9 to 16 years old. Children with first-time cases are often treated easily, while children with a history of the disease are more seriously ill.
Mr. Truong recommends that many people still confuse between dengue fever and viral fever, due to some similar initial symptoms such as high fever and fatigue. However, dengue fever can cause more dangerous complications and has a different cause and transmission method than viral fever. Therefore, it is best for parents to take their baby to the nearest medical facility for testing for timely treatment.
Continuing prevention and control work
It is known that in the past time, Can Tho Children's Hospital has fully implemented the Department of Health's directive on dengue prevention and control and developed a plan to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease, dengue fever and Zika virus in 2025; updated and supplemented treatment regimens at the hospital according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health.
Regarding the situation of drugs, supplies, and medical equipment in the treatment of dengue fever, the Hospital also implemented many packages to ensure the needs of diagnosis and treatment at the unit; however, it also encountered difficulties due to some types of drugs. The hospital recommends that the Ministry of Health consider importing these items to have a stable source of goods when an epidemic occurs.

Previously, the Can Tho Department of Health informed that on August 1, a working group of the Ministry of Health inspected the dengue fever prevention work in Can Tho City.
The working group highly appreciated Can Tho's dengue prevention work in the context of the merger; proposed to continue to strengthen dengue monitoring and prevention, try to handle early, thoroughly handle outbreaks and cases recorded in the area, avoid missing out, to prevent sources of infection, and prevent the epidemic from spreading.
