The cradle of revolutionary medicine
One time with the delegation of the health ministries of Dong Thap province to go to the source of Tan Kieu and Thanh My communes (Thap Muoi district), and meet many historical witnesses, I somewhat imagined the cradle of revolutionary health care in Dong Thap.
Due to complex terrain, Dong Thap has become a revolutionary base, with leaders of the Southwest region and the provinces of Kien Phong, Kien Tuong, My Tho, and Long An throughout the two resistance wars against France and the US. Therefore, the Dong Thap battlefield in the resistance war was very determined and resolute. Therefore, the medical force was born very early and experienced many hardships.
When the French colonialists returned to invade Sa Dec (now Dong Thap) for the second time, in early 1946 the Sa Dec Provincial Party Committee established the Medical and dan quan doi.
After a period of location in Cai Mon Communal House (Nhi My Commune, Cao Lanh District), to meet the needs of receiving and treating war invalids and sick soldiers in the face of the widespread war and fierce battlefields, on July 27, 1967, it was transferred to Phu Dien Commune (Thap Muoi District) and upgraded to the Southern Military-Civilian Medical Department.
After many changes in name following changes in the resistance administrative unit, by 1954, most medical staff in Dong Thap had gathered in the North, with only about 30 people left.
However, under the terrorist suppression of the enemy, the medical force was arrested and massacred, the rest worriedly stuck to the people to operate, and the militia and medicine organization was almost dissolved.
Determining this as an important force in the resistance war, Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee quickly rebuilt to serve the battle. The religious activities of the generations of revolutionary health health of Dong Thap have made an important contribution to the people's army and people with the land of Hong Hong peace of mind to fight the homeland, together with the whole country to make the great victory in the spring of April 30, 1975.
Doctor - soldier
Because they operate in the area known as the "Southern Resistance Capital", the Dong Thap medical team simultaneously performs two tasks, treating them as doctors and fighting as soldiers.
Not only overcoming the shortage of materials and equipment to become a safe rear for soldiers on the front line, many generations of doctors in Dong Thap are like soldiers and more than soldiers on the battlefield when fighting to protect the grassroots and ensure the safety of wounded soldiers every time the enemy launched a campaign of bombs and bullets...
In order to help me imagine that part of that great merits, Dr. Doan Tan Buu - Director of Dong Thap Department of Health - said that during the two resistance wars, Dong Thap health sector cure over 10,000 heavy wounded soldiers and medical examination and treatment for nearly 1 million people. At the same time, greed and serve nearly 500 bullets; Set 20,000 mines, grenades, 70 honeycomb and over 1,000 tables; Digging over 1,000 secret tunnels containing war invalids, tens of thousands of fortifications avoid firecrackers. Especially, he directly fought and destroyed, injuring more than 400 enemies. Thereby appearing many examples of heroic physician.
On October 30, 1966, nurses Vo Thi Hong and Bui Van Noi fought for 3 consecutive hours with more than 100 enemy soldiers and 15 armored vehicles hitting the infirmary. Before the sacrifice, nurse Hong and nurse Noi had only one arm left but fought steadfastly, killing 20 enemy men, destroying 3 M113 vehicles, and protecting the safety of the wounded soldiers.
Or in February 1970, Mr. Doan Hong - later Director of the Dong Thap Department of Health - and some teenagers of Doc Binh Kieu commune opened a bloody road to help the wounded soldiers escape the enemy's siege, but on the way they were surrounded by the enemy, 2 teenagers were shot dead, Mr. Hong himself was hit by 7 mines but remained calm with his teammates to fight, mobilizing the wounded soldiers to escape the enemy's siege...
Behind the majestic trophies was about Tram Hung, the numbers said: "In the two resistance wars, Dong Thap health sector has 169 martyrs, 114 wounded soldiers, more than 20 were captured and imprisoned by the enemy." These sacrifices have contributed to making Thanh My commune the first locality in the South to completely liberate in 1959, from which to coordinate with the forces to implement the strategy of liberating the whole province, contributing to the great victory of the nation: liberation of the South, reunification of the country on April 30, 1975.
Remembering that contribution, over the years, the Dong Thap health sector has regularly organized resources, returned to the ancient battlefield to commemorate those who came before and show gratitude to the people who have cared for and supported the sector during difficult days.
"We want the younger generation to remember our benefactors and leaders to have more strength towards the journey of serving the people's health," Mr. Buu emphasized.
