On March 24, the People's Court of Quang Nam province opened a first-instance trial of Tran Dong Lap (born in 1990, residing in Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam) and Dang Van Duoc (born in 1999, residing in A Luoi district, Hue city) for the crimes of "Robbery" and "Theft of property".
According to the indictment, due to mounting debts, on January 15, 2024, Lap invited Duoc to commit a bank robbery. The two prepared plastic guns, knives, and disguised clothes and moved from A Luoi to Duy Xuyen (Quang Nam). On the way, the two stole a motorbike to use for the robbery.
On the morning of January 19, 2024, the two approached the Western Area Transaction Office of Agribank Duy Xuyen branch. Taking a gun to control the security guard, screaming for the bank employee to give him money. Under threat pressure, the employee handed over 200 million VND. However, when the alarm rang, both subjects panicked and ran away.
After destroying the evidence, Lap and Duoc fled but were quickly arrested by the police on January 20, 2024.
At the trial, the Trial Council sentenced Tran Dong Lap to 15 years and 6 months in prison, and Dang Van Duoc to 14 years in prison for the above crimes.
