The defendants include: Vu Thanh Tung (born in 1993), Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh (born in 1996), Nguyen Thi Thao (born in 1990), Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1986), Vu Thi Thom (born in 1989), Vu Khac Diep (born in 1984), Nguyen Thi Thao (born in 1966), Nguyen Van Phien (born in 1973) and Nguyen Duc Dai (born in 1987); all residing in Dong Trieu city.
According to the indictment, from September 2021 to December 2021 and from October 2024 to November 3, 2024, the subjects organized gambling in many forms such as recording lottery numbers, lottery numbers, three-digit, lottery and football betting through social networking platforms such as Zalo, Telegram.
Vu Thanh Tung is the leader, using many social media accounts to receive lottery tables and betting tables from other subjects to enjoy the advantage.
On November 3, 2024, during an administrative inspection at the tea shop of Nguyen Thi Thao (born in 1966, residing in Mao Khe ward, Dong Trieu city), the authorities discovered Thao using her phone to compile a note to send to Vu Thanh Tung.
Expanding the investigation, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Ninh Provincial Police coordinated with Mao Khe Ward Police to identify many more related subjects.
The defendants admitted to their crimes, including regular gambling activities, payment via bank transfer and cash.
At the trial held on June 13, 2025, the defendants confessed honestly and showed their repentance. Based on documents, evidence, questioning results and proposals from the Procuracy, the Trial Council sentenced: Vu Thanh Tung to 36 months in prison; Nguyen Van Phien to 6 months in prison; Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh to 27 months in prison, suspended sentence (challenge of 54 months); Nguyen Thi Thao (born in 1990) to 30 months in prison, suspended sentence (challenge of 60 months).
Nguyen Van Tuan has 29 months in prison, suspended sentence (48 months probation); Vu Thi Thom has 18 months in prison, suspended sentence (36 months probation); Vu Khac Diep has 15 months in prison, suspended sentence (30 month probation); Nguyen Thi Thao (born in 1966) has 12 months in prison, suspended sentence (24-month probation); Nguyen Duc Dai has 6 months in prison, suspended sentence (12 month probation).
