At 10:30 p.m. on November 8, Ha Dong District Police (Hanoi City) received a report from Mr. Phan Ba T (born in 1968, residing in Van Quan urban area, Van Quan ward, Ha Dong district). According to Mr. T, at around 10 p.m. on the same day, while walking, Mr. T was approached by a subject driving a motorbike and robbed of his iPhone.
During the investigation, Ha Dong District Police continued to receive reports from people about a man on a motorbike snatching his phone.
Through collecting documents, Ha Dong District Police determined that these two robberies were committed by the same subject with a brutal nature and method of committing the crime. They need to be quickly arrested to prevent the subject from continuing to commit crimes.
However, the incidents all occurred at night, when there were few people around, making it difficult to trace, identify, and identify the characteristics of the subjects and the means of committing the crime.
Using professional measures, the Criminal Police of Ha Dong District Police coordinated with Ung Hoa District Police, Hanoi City to identify the subject as Tran Minh Hieu (born in 1990, residing in Noi Xa village, Van Thai commune, Ung Hoa district) with a criminal record for robbery, violating regulations on road traffic control and theft of property, who had just completed his prison sentence and returned to his locality.
At around 11:00 p.m. on November 11, the police arrested Tran Minh Hieu in Luong Son town, Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province.
Through "hot" exploitation, the Investigation Police of Ha Dong District clarified and arrested Ta Xuan Hai (born in 1977; residing in Lien Bat commune, Ung Hoa district) for the act of consuming property obtained by others through crime.
During an emergency search of Ta Xuan Hai's residence, the police seized 11 iPhone mobile phones of various types; a blue Honda Wave motorbike with license plate number 30Y7 - 5086, which was the vehicle Hieu used to commit the robbery.
Tran Minh Hieu confessed that in July 2024, after completing his prison sentence for theft, due to having no money to spend, he had the idea of using a motorbike as a means of robbery.
After each crime, Hieu contacted Ta Xuan Hai, the owner of a mobile phone store in Van Dinh town, Ung Hoa district, to sell illegal assets.
Initially, the Investigation Agency of Ha Dong District Police clarified that with the above methods and tricks, Tran Minh Hieu committed 10 robberies (mainly mobile phones) in Ha Dong District, with a total property value of about 200 million VND.
Based on the investigation results, the Investigation Police Agency of Ha Dong Police Department has issued a decision to temporarily detain Tran Minh Hieu for the crime of robbery; and temporarily detain Ta Xuan Hai for the crime of receiving property obtained by another person's crime.
Ha Dong District Police request that anyone who is a victim of robberies related to Hieu contact the Criminal Police Team of Ha Dong District Police to report and provide information.
