16 old apartment buildings in Hai Phong are about to be demolished to make resettlement areas.

The Hai Phong City People's Council has just approved the decision on the investment project to build technical infrastructure works in the old Van My apartment building area and 311 Da Nang. The project has a total investment of 583,671 billion VND, implementation period 2024 - 2027.

The project scale is to clear the land within the scope of 5 old apartment buildings in area 311 Da Nang, Cau Tre ward, 11 old apartment buildings in Van My ward and households in the premises of apartment buildings on a land area of about 10.07 hectares, not including Sao Sang 3 Kindergarten. The project also completes the technical infrastructure of the resettlement area with an area of about 4.5 hectares, arranges 267 lots to serve the resettlement needs of projects in the district and on-site resettlement; builds a system of flower gardens and trees with an area of 1.2 hectares...

Van My apartment complex was built in the 1970s - 1980s. Currently, the apartment complex has about 1,300 households living there.

Most of the buildings are at level D danger - the highest level, unsafe, in a state of general disrepair, and in need of urgent evacuation...

The deterioration of the apartment complex is getting worse and worse as more and more cases of falling ceilings and plaster are occurring, threatening the safety of residents here. Mr. Vu Trung Thien - a resident of house number 16C - CT3 -T3-A1 Van My Apartment Complex said that his family has lived in the apartment complex for more than 40 years. The house has been degraded for a long time, the walls are peeling, cracked, and occasionally pieces of plaster as big as a hand fall out. A room of about 7 square meters is showing signs of deterioration so Mr. Thien uses it as a warehouse and garage.

The outer walls of the apartment building are covered with moss and overgrown with weeds.

The stairs are narrow and mostly dilapidated, with peeling ceilings.

The stairs are severely cracked, leaving only rusty iron frames. Faced with the deterioration, from August 2023, on August 23, Hai Phong directed units and localities to urgently implement support measures to ensure the safety of the old Van My apartment building.

In the coming time, households living in these old apartment buildings will be relocated to serve the investment project to build technical infrastructure works in the old apartment area of Van My and 311 Da Nang.

Behind the old apartment buildings that are about to be demolished, many social housing projects in Hai Phong have taken shape, including the Lac Vien Warehouse 3 Social Housing Project, which is expected to be completed in 2025. According to the Social Housing Project combined with housing solutions for households in old apartment buildings approved by the Hai Phong City People's Council in Resolution No. 04/NQ-HDND dated April 12, 2022, after 2025, households living in Van My Apartment Complex will enjoy the policy of purchasing social housing at the Social Housing Project at Lac Vien Warehouse 3 (No. 142 Le Lai).
