On September 26, Mr. Tran Tam Trung - Director of the Center for Housing and Land Fund Development of Bac Lieu province - said that the province has come up with a plan to handle these two dormitory blocks.
Accordingly, relevant sectors have surveyed and prepared a report requesting the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province to consider submitting to competent authorities for permission to convert to housing for low-income people, social housing, and housing for workers.
However, Mr. Trung said that the conversion procedure is beyond the authority of the center. The viewpoint of the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee is to find ways to overcome difficulties, not to let the building be abandoned for many years like in the past.
It is known that the Bac Lieu Province Student Dormitory Project has a total estimated budget of 260 billion VND, located in Ward 1, Bac Lieu City, Bac Lieu Province, invested by the Department of Construction. The project was completed in 2015 with 2 fully equipped buildings. Each building is 5 floors high, with 150 rooms with a capacity of 1,200 seats. However, since then, the 2 buildings have been almost empty.
Since handing over to the Bac Lieu Province Housing and Land Fund Development Center (in 2015), this unit has repeatedly mobilized students from universities and colleges in the province to move here, but only a few have lived here. In 2016, no students moved here, making the project ineffective. With no one living there, many items of the project have now deteriorated.
