On September 17, the Supervisory Delegation of the Social and Cultural Committee of the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Council had a working session with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Bac Lieu province on the implementation of policies and regimes for people with meritorious services in the province, period 2021 - 2023.
The report of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Bac Lieu province shows that the total number of meritorious people and their relatives in Bac Lieu province is over 71,000 people. Of which, there are over 12,560 martyrs, over 2,280 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers (43 mothers are still alive). The total number of meritorious people and their relatives receiving monthly allowances at this time is over 7,800 people with a budget of about 175 billion VND/year.
The implementation of preferential policies and regimes for people with meritorious services has always been fully and promptly implemented by provincial leaders, party committees, authorities, departments and organizations. At the same time, the "Repaying gratitude" movements have been regularly and effectively implemented.
There are 64/64 communes, wards and towns that have done a good job in implementing policies for people with meritorious services; receiving lifelong care for 43 living Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; providing regular monthly support for 1/4 and 2/4 war invalids. Notably, at the end of 2019, the province completed 1 year ahead of schedule the construction and repair of over 5,100 gratitude houses for people with meritorious services and their relatives according to Decision 22 of the Prime Minister.
The province is currently implementing the Central Government's policy on reviewing housing needs for meritorious people in the 2021-2025 period with a total of nearly 2,900 meritorious households in need of new construction, renovation, repair... because many houses are old and dilapidated.
Ms. Tran Thi Huynh Dao - Head of Culture and Society of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Council - said: Policies for people with meritorious services and their relatives have always received attention from the Party and the State and have been increasingly improved. Party committees at all levels, functional branches and localities in the province have always implemented them fully and promptly, with many practical and effective models and movements of "Repaying gratitude". Since then, the lives of people with meritorious services and policy families in the province have also become better day by day, the number of poor and near-poor households in this group is still very small (7 poor households, 17 near-poor households).
However, reality shows that there are still many shortcomings and limitations that need to be overcome, such as: propaganda work to raise awareness about implementing policies for people with meritorious services; in some places and at some times, the payment of subsidies according to the current non-cash policy is still slow and has many shortcomings; there are still many households with housing difficulties in the province... that need more attention.
