According to Lao Dong reporters, the apartment complex at 23 Hang Bai, Vong Duc has recently shown signs of deterioration, with "tiger cages and bird cages" all around...
Due to the limited space, many households in these apartment buildings are forced to expand, renovate, and utilize the hallway area as a storage area, kitchen, bathing area, and living area.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc (name requested to be changed, living in the Hang Bai apartment complex, Hoan Kiem district) said that most of the people here are post office workers, assigned housing in the 1960s.
According to Ms. Ngoc, the current state of the apartment complex is degraded, damp, and leaks even when it doesn’t rain. Due to the cramped living space, many households here have even moved to other places to live.
Many residents living in the 23 Hang Bai apartment building said that in the past, many authorities had come to assess and appraise the degraded state of the apartment building, but so far they have not been able to renovate or repair it.
Most of the households here want to move elsewhere but there is no specific plan or relocation location so they have to stay.
Also located in Hoan Kiem district, the Vong Duc apartment building has recently been seriously degraded.
According to Lao Dong reporters, for decades, residents here have had to live in cramped spaces. In many places in the apartment complex, lights are always on 24/7 due to lack of light and humidity.
According to research, the Vong Duc collective housing area, also known as the old Dien Co collective housing area, was built in the 60s of the last century. The collective housing area has a total area of nearly 400m2, built on 4 floors, the apartments have an area ranging from 6-24m2.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Real Estate Brokers Association - commented: Many old collective apartments but located in "golden land" locations, the center of Hanoi City have recently been attracting the attention of people. Investors who want to buy old collective houses at this time need to pay attention to the actual area and the expanded area. Because during the process of living, many households have expanded tiger cages, bird cages of tens of square meters, causing great risks and reducing the value when buying, selling and transferring.
