How to choose and arrange ornamental plants in the house for beginners

Thanh Thanh |

Understanding the characteristics of light, choosing balanced sizes, and proper care will help you arrange green spaces in the house both beautifully and maintain long-term freshness.

Green trees are not only natural decorations that help purify the air but also bring vitality and a feeling of relaxation to the living space. However, to keep the tree always green and maximize its aesthetic value, you need to master the basic arrangement and care principles.

Survey of placement and ventilation

Before choosing to buy a plant, it is necessary to clearly identify the area of the arrangement, wind direction and amount of light received. The ideal location is usually near the balcony, next to the window, along the hallway or on decorative shelves.

You should keep a minimum distance of 15 cm between the plant and surrounding furniture to create ventilation. For closed rooms or poor wind circulation, resilient plant varieties such as tiger's tongue, kim tien, trau ba or ornamental are the optimal choice.

Adjust temperature and light appropriately

Each type of plant has its own needs for moisture and sunlight. Tropical plants such as betel need high humidity and sufficient soil; while cacti and stone lotus need drier environments.

Avoid placing the pot of plants directly under the direct wind blowing from the air conditioner to avoid drying the soil and burning the leaves. If the plant prefers light, place it near a sunny window. Conversely, partially shaded plants will be suitable for the lobby area or a corner of the room with gentle light.

Choose a tree size that is balanced with space

The selection of plants needs to consider the growth rate in the future and the harmony ratio with furniture. Compact plants such as Italian orchids, jade, spider vines or aloe vera are very suitable for desk, bookshelves or windowsills.

Meanwhile, large-shaped trees (from 0.6 m to 1.5 m high) such as bamboo and rattan should be placed independently next to sofas or empty wall corners to create an impressive visual highlight.

Understand the needs for care and choose a good drainage basin

Taking care of plants indoors requires moderation instead of watering too much, causing roots to be waterlogged. It is necessary to periodically prune yellowed leaves, and wipe away dust from the surface of the leaves for better photosynthesis.

At the same time, always prioritize choosing pots with good drainage holes at the bottom and trays underneath to maintain hygiene for the floor and furniture.
