According to the reporter's investigation, recently, the prices of apartments and houses in alleys around the center of Can Tho City have been continuously pushed up. Currently, the prices range from 35-50 million VND/m2, even exceeding 55 million VND/m2.
For example, an owner advertised a house in an alley on Nguyen Van Cu Street (Ninh Kieu District) on social media, promising a red book for VND3.8 billion, an area of 60 square meters. Or another house in an alley on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street (Binh Thuy District) was advertised for VND1.6 billion, 30 square meters.
Posing as a person looking for housing, the reporter was introduced to an apartment located deep in an alley on 30/4 Street (Ninh Kieu District) with an area of 42 square meters and a price of 2.3 billion VND. According to the broker, this apartment was offered as a rare item and was not "involved" in planning.
The real estate fever has caused house and land prices to continuously increase, causing workers to face many difficulties and pressure due to housing needs.
After saving for nearly ten years, planning to buy a house priced at around 500-600 million VND for his family to live comfortably, Mr. Tran Quoc Khang - an office worker in Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city - was surprised when house prices increased continuously.
Mr. Khang said: "Surveying the houses in the alley, I was quite surprised when the price increased rapidly, currently at 35-48 million VND/m2. Meanwhile, at the end of 2023, the price only fluctuated from 25-30 million VND/m2".
Rising housing prices have put pressure on this office worker. "After more than 10 years of working, my husband and I's biggest goal is to own a small house. With the current price, I think we can only borrow more from the bank. If we can buy social housing, that would be great," he said.
In order to ensure the management and development of social housing in Can Tho City is increasingly healthy, previously, the City People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 3729/UBND-XDDT on the assignment of tasks in the management and development of social housing in the city.
Accordingly, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong assigned relevant units to organize loan evaluation and timely disbursement for eligible subjects who need to borrow capital according to regulations; carry out procedures to publicize project information and selling prices; take measures to prevent policy profiteering so that people have full access to information and can buy social housing at the right price.
According to information from the Department of Construction of Can Tho City, in the period of 2015 - 2023, out of 6 social housing projects in the city, 3 projects have been completed and 3 projects are still under construction. It is expected that these 6 projects will provide 2,549 apartments, meeting the housing needs of about 10,000 people.
