Evacuation of 1,270 households in Binh Thanh and Go Vap, where will they be resettled?

HCMC - 1,270 households completely cleared in Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts to renovate Xuyen Tam canal will be resettled in many different locations.

The project to dredge, improve the environment, and build infrastructure for Xuyen Tam canal passing through Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts affects a total of 2,215 households and organizations.

In Go Vap district, there were 138 cases of land reclamation, including 137 households and Van Lang University. Of these, 40 households were completely cleared, and 98 households were partially cleared.

In Binh Thanh district, the land reclamation project involved 2,077 cases, of which 1,230 households and 23 organizations were completely cleared. The remaining 824 cases were partially cleared.

Currently, both Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts have issued decisions approving compensation, support and resettlement plans to implement the project.

There are 1,326 cases in Binh Thanh district that are being resettled. Of these, 1,230 cases are being completely cleared (675 cases are eligible for land compensation and 555 cases are not eligible for compensation) and 96 cases are being partially cleared (the remaining part is not eligible for construction permits).

Resettlement areas and resettlement locations include:

- 58 residential plots in Binh Thanh district (15 plots) and Thu Duc city (43 plots).

- 315 apartments available in Binh Thanh district.

- 238 apartments in Thu Duc City (152 units), District 10 (25 units) and District 12 (61 units).

- 864 social housing apartments at 4 Phan Chu Trinh, Ward 12, Binh Thanh District.

- 144 apartments at Nguyen Kim apartment building (Area B), Ward 7, District 10.

Households whose entire houses and residential land are recovered and are eligible for land compensation will be able to choose one of four resettlement options: Land in Binh Thanh or Thu Duc City; apartment in Binh Thanh, Thu Duc City, District 10 or District 12; social housing apartment at 4 Phan Chu Trinh; apartment in Nguyen Kim apartment building.

In case of not being eligible for compensation for residential land, if the recovered land area is larger than or equal to the residential land allocation limit, households can still choose one of the four forms above.

If the land area is smaller than the limit, households can choose from three options: Apartment in Binh Thanh, Thu Duc City, District 10 or District 12; social housing apartment at 4 Phan Chu Trinh; apartment at Nguyen Kim apartment building.

In Go Vap district, 40 cases of white clearance will be resettled at Gia Khang apartment building, Ward 11, Go Vap district.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (project investor) has transferred more than VND11,939 billion to Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts to pay for compensation, support and resettlement.

According to the plan, the XL-03 package (section from Luong Ngoc Quyen Street to Vam Thuat River) through Go Vap district will start construction in March 2025.

Package XL-01 (section from Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Bui Dinh Tuy bridge) and package XL-02 (section from Bui Dinh Tuy bridge to Luong Ngoc Quyen street), including branches of Binh Loi, Binh Trieu and Cau Son canals through Binh Thanh district, will start construction before April 30, 2025.
