On August 25, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, the province has just issued a document approving the Housing Development Plan for the period 2026 - 2030, setting a target of completing about 8.94 million m2 of housing floor space, including 6,720 social housing units.
According to the Plan approved in Decision No. 3022, by the end of 2025, the whole province will have 430,940 houses with a total floor area of about 45.15 million m2.
The average housing area reached 26.5 m2 of floor space/person; the proportion of solid and semi-solid housing reached 91.7%.
In the period 2021 - 2025, the whole province has 63 commercial housing construction investment projects underway, completing 3,451 units with a total floor area of 828,435 m2.
For social housing, 8 projects have been and are being implemented with a total scale of 6,615 units, equivalent to about 460,312 m2 of floor space; of which 5 projects have started construction with 4,509 units.
In the period 2026 - 2030, Lao Cai is expected to develop about 8.389 million m2 of commercial housing floors and 536,060 m2 of social housing floors.
For social housing alone, the 2026 - 2028 period strives to complete about 3,538 units, and the 2029 - 2030 period about 2,982 units.
The province also plans to complete 250 official housing units, about 15,000 m2 of floor space; develop about 200 apartments for rent and implement worker accommodation projects in industrial parks suitable to actual needs.

A notable goal is to improve housing quality. By 2030, the proportion of solid and semi-solid housing is targeted at over 96.5%; unstable housing will decrease to below 3.5% and new rudimentary housing, temporary housing, and dilapidated housing will not arise.
The average housing area is expected to reach 29.8 m2 of floor space per person.
In addition to housing development, the province aims to support about 11,662 houses for poor households, near-poor households, families of people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs facing housing difficulties.
To implement the plan, Lao Cai will review the land fund, especially the social housing land fund; accelerate site clearance, invest in connecting infrastructure, shorten procedures and inspect and urge the progress of projects.
Slowly implemented projects will be reviewed and handled according to regulations.
