In early 2026, many localities in the Northern mountainous region are accelerating the implementation of social housing projects to meet the housing needs of low-income people, workers and labor forces in urban areas.
In the Northwest region, the mountainous provinces of Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang and Lang Son have and are forming tens of thousands of apartments.
In Lao Cai province, the urgent construction atmosphere covers key social housing construction sites. Notably, the social housing project on the left bank of the Red River (Lao Cai ward) with 4 12-story buildings, total floor area of more than 66,500m2.

The project has a total investment of more than 630 billion VND, expected to provide about 760 apartments for nearly 1,900 people. Currently, the construction progress has reached about 60% of the output value, and many items are being implemented simultaneously with nearly 500 workers working continuously.
At the same time, the social housing project in the residential area adjacent to extended B6 road (Cam Duong ward) with a large scale of more than 2,190 apartments is also being accelerated.
The first two building blocks have completed the rough and painted exteriors, and the first apartments are expected to be handed over in early 2026. The project has a total investment of more than 2,085 billion VND, contributing significantly to supplementing the supply of social housing in the area.
In addition to ongoing projects, Lao Cai has just started the Lam Vien social housing project (Cam Duong ward), including 3 9-story apartment buildings with 594 apartments.
When completed, the project will accommodate about 1,700 people, and at the same time contribute to embellishing the urban appearance of the area. According to the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, the locality sets a target to build 8,000 social housing units, and so far about 4,000 units have been completed.

In Thai Nguyen, the results of social housing development recorded many positive signs when the locality completed 4,223 units, nearly 4 times the assigned target. Meanwhile, Cao Bang, Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces were not assigned social housing development targets for the year.
However, on December 19, 2025, Lai Chau province organized the groundbreaking ceremony of the investment project to build the Doan Ket Lai Chau Social Housing Area (belonging to Doan Ket ward).
This project has a total estimated investment of more than 905 billion VND. The project is built into 3 blocks of social housing in the form of apartments expected to be 15-20 stories high, providing about 960 apartments. Construction of commercial housing on an area of 20% of residential land belonging to the project, expected to be about 40 apartments, 4-5 stories high.
The project has 1 2-story kindergarten on an area of about 370m2. This social housing area will accommodate about 3,000 people.

In Tuyen Quang province, a number of social housing projects are being implemented according to plan. The social housing project in Tuyen Quang Urban Housing Development Area (Minh Xuan ward) with 146 apartments is expected to be handed over in the fourth quarter of 2026.
In addition, the social housing project in Y La ward (now Minh Xuan ward) has a scale of about 456 apartments, an expected population of nearly 1,800 people, and is in the stage of implementing investment and construction steps.
Promoting the development of social housing in localities is expected to contribute to ensuring social security, helping low-income people and workers stabilize their housing, feel secure in working, and at the same time create motivation for sustainable socio-economic development.
