Ca Mau - The Provincial Inspectorate will clarify the management, use of land, construction investment, and exploitation of the Bac Lieu Provincial Student Housing project after many years of being almost vacant.

On September 10, the Inspectorate of Ca Mau province said that it had announced the decision to inspect the management and use of land at the Bac Lieu Provincial Student Housing project.

Accordingly, the inspection team will clarify the land use, construction investment, exploitation, and use of works at the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance of Ca Mau province and the Ca Mau Provincial Land Fund Development Center.

The inspection period is calculated from the project implementation to the time of inspection; if necessary, it can be expanded to consider related contents.

The inspection was carried out under the direction of the Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee in Official Dispatch No. 385/UBND-NC dated May 14, 2026 on implementing the conclusion on preventing and combating corruption, wastefulness, and negativity. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Provincial Inspectorate to organize a surprise inspection of this content.

The Bac Lieu Provincial Student Housing Project was approved with a total investment of 260 billion VND, invested by the Department of Construction. After about 3 years of construction, in 2015, the project was completed and handed over 2 5-story buildings, including 150 rooms, with a capacity of about 1,200 students.

However, after handover, the project almost did not promote its function. The management unit has repeatedly mobilized students from universities and colleges to move in, but only a few cases. In 2016, no students moved in.

After many years of being vacant, some items of the project have deteriorated. The locality once proposed converting the function to social housing for low-income people and workers, but the plan has not been implemented due to legal procedures.

In July 2026, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee decided to transfer public assets, which are house and land facilities of Bac Lieu Provincial Student Housing Area, from the Provincial Land Fund Development Center to Bac Lieu University for management and use.

Bac Lieu University said it will renovate and repair to put the project back into use as a dormitory. The building is expected to serve students of the school and students from other training institutions in the area who need accommodation.
