In January 2026, Mr. Tran Hoa Nam - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - signed a decision to recover 4 houses and land facilities under the management of a number of units in the province, with the reason of ineffective land use.
One of the recovered facilities is the land area in Khanh Thanh Nam village, Suoi Dau commune (facility 3) currently managed and used by Khanh Hoa University.
This is the latest development after Lao Dong Newspaper's reflection through the article: "Land allocated to be a startup center, Khanh Hoa University plants bananas, raises chickens".
According to the conclusion of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Inspectorate, this land area was used by the school for improper purposes, not promoting efficiency according to the assigned functions.
Previously, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee assigned Khanh Hoa University a total land area of 95,163m2 and issued certificates of land management and use rights, ownership of houses and assets attached to land in 2019.
By 2020, the Provincial People's Committee agreed to allow Khanh Hoa University to implement the project "Building a Research, Creative Experience and Startup Center of Khanh Hoa University" in this land area.
However, because the project implementation area has not been approved for detailed planning at a scale of 1/500, the project has not yet been invested and built.
Through actual inspection, the Inspectorate of Khanh Hoa province recorded that in the land area, short-term crops such as bananas, papayas, coconuts and chicken farming are being planted, not in accordance with the assigned land use objectives.
According to the general planning of Cam Lam new urban area until 2045, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 205 in 2024, a part of the land area is planned as specialized green land, the rest belongs to existing residential areas.
In addition to the campus of Khanh Hoa University, this recovery phase also includes 1 housing and land facility of Cam Ranh Continuing Education and Career Guidance Center (a unit directly under the Department of Education and Training) and 2 housing and land facilities of Khanh Hoa College of Technology - Energy.
Within 30 days from the date of the recovery decision, units with recovered assets are responsible for presiding over and coordinating with the Department of Finance and the Land Development Center of Khanh Hoa province to fully hand over assets and related legal documents. At the same time, conduct accounting for asset increases and decreases in accordance with current accounting regulations.
