The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just approved the sea encroachment item of the Can Gio Sea- encroached Urban Tourism Area project (Long Hoa commune and Can Thanh town, Can Gio district).
The Can Gio coastal urban tourism project has a total area of 2,870 hectares, of which the approved coastal encroachment area is 1,357 hectares.
The project needs about 64,425 billion VND to implement important items such as leveling, lake embankments and sea embankments by 2031.
The project investor is Can Gio Urban Tourism Joint Stock Company. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requires investors and consulting units to be fully responsible before the law for the accuracy of the appraisal dossier.
At the same time, businesses must ensure full compliance with legal regulations and strictly implement environmental protection work according to the approved environmental impact assessment report.
In case the investor does not comply with the regulations, the competent state agency will handle the violation in accordance with the provisions of law.
The Can Gio coastal urban tourism project has an expected population of nearly 230,000 people, with the ability to welcome 8 - 9 million tourists each year. The project is divided into 5 main subdivisions.
Sub-area A (953.23ha) will be an ecological urban area combined with tourism services, acting as the gateway to the Can Gio coastal urban tourism area.
Sub-area B (659.87ha) focuses on resort tourism areas, housing and public service works such as healthcare, education, administrative and commercial headquarters. This area will also include many green spaces and technical infrastructure.
Sub-area C (318.32ha) is a financial, economic, commercial and service center, combined with ports, modern housing areas such as townhouses, villas and high-rise houses.
Zone D (480.46ha) will be a commercial area, high-end resorts, modern urban areas.
Sub-area E (458.12ha) is mainly for water surface, canals, and trees.
At the meeting between the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the business community on March 6, Ms. Cao Thi Ha An - Project Development Director of Vingroup Corporation - said that the group had completed important legal procedures such as detailed planning 1/500, environmental impact assessment report and feasibility study.
Vingroup aims to start the project before April 30, 2025 and recommends that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and departments and branches speed up the project's progress.
At the same time, the group proposed to assign Can Gio Urban Tourism Joint Stock Company - a member unit of the group - to study and develop a project to preserve and develop Can Gio tourism in a sustainable direction.
Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan highly appreciated this proposal and assigned the competent authorities to study carefully. Mr. Hoan also acknowledged the efforts of the enterprise and emphasized that the early implementation of the project will create momentum for the development of tourism and marine economy for Ho Chi Minh City.
