Ho Chi Minh City is about to completely clear 3,669 households for 2 projects worth more than 31,500 billion VND

Ho Chi Minh City is expected to recover land from 3,782 households, of which 3,669 households will be completely cleared to implement 2 projects to renovate the south bank of the Doi canal, with a total capital of more than 31,500 billion VND.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just sent 2 submissions to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council proposing decisions on investment policy for 2 urban embellishment projects in the South bank of Doi canal area, belonging to Chanh Hung and Binh Dong wards.

These projects will be considered and approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council at the 5th session of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council (specialized session), taking place from September 21-22.

The urban embellishment project in the South bank of Doi canal (section from Mat bridge to Hiep An bridge) in Chanh Hung ward, has a total investment of nearly 13,610 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.

The project is to build about 2.1km of embankment along the south bank of Doi canal; expand Pham The Hien street to 30m; build and expand Mat bridge and Hiep An bridge.

The project also invests in drainage systems, technical trenches, lighting and green parks combined with sports along the Doi canal.

To implement the project, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to recover more than 11ha of land, affecting about 2,060 cases. Of which, there are 2,042 cases of full clearance and 18 cases of partial clearance.

The urban embellishment project in the South bank of Doi canal area (section from Ba Tang bridge to the end of the South bank of Doi canal) in Binh Dong ward, has a total investment of more than 17,900 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget. In which, the cost of compensation, support and resettlement alone is nearly 14,770 billion VND.

The project is expected to build about 2.9km of embankment on the south bank of Doi canal; expand Pham The Hien street to 30m; build new D8 road according to the plan with a width of 30m and D7 road 14m wide.

Along with that is the drainage system, technical trenches along Pham The Hien street and a green park combined with sports along Doi canal.

It is expected that about 1,723 cases will be affected due to the recovery of about 20.85 hectares of land. Of which, 1,627 cases will be completely cleared and 96 cases will be partially cleared.

If approved, both projects will be implemented in the period 2026 - 2031.

Two projects to embellish the south bank of Doi canal are included in the urban embellishment plan for residential areas on and along rivers, canals, and ditches of Ho Chi Minh City.

Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction Tran Quang Lam said that in the period 2025 - 2030, the city identifies the implementation of 117 projects, with a scale of about 41, 540 houses along rivers, canals, and ditches in 53 wards and communes.

According to Mr. Tran Quang Lam, when completed, the projects will contribute to improving the quality of life of people, improving the environment, treating pollution, solving flooding points, completing drainage systems, controlling tides and gradually embellishing the urban landscape along both banks of rivers, canals, and ditches.

In phase 1, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to implement 54 projects, affecting about 19,958 houses, with a total investment of more than 149,50 billion VND.

Phase 2 includes 63 projects, affecting about 21,582 houses, with a total investment of more than 232.880 billion VND.
