Ho Chi Minh City will reclaim land from 98 households in District 7 and Nha Be District to implement the North-South axis road upgrade project, of which 19 households were completely cleared.

The project to upgrade the North-South axis road (Nguyen Huu Tho Street) from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway has a total investment of nearly VND9,900 billion.

Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the investment policy for this project under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.

The route is 8.6 km long, expanding the road surface to 60 m to accommodate 10 lanes.

Of which, 7.2 km will be built with a 4-lane elevated road, designed speed of 80 km/h, helping vehicles move more conveniently.

Below, two parallel roads on each side are 3 lanes wide, with a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

The project will form two important intersections on Nguyen Van Linh Street and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, contributing to the completion of the traffic network connecting the South with neighboring areas.

The total land area affected by the project is 66.5 hectares, of which District 7 accounts for 13.28 hectares and Nha Be District accounts for 53.22 hectares. Of these, the area to be cleared is about 2.27 hectares, including 0.91 hectares of residential land and 1.36 hectares of agricultural land.

District 7 has 92 affected households, of which 19 households had to be completely relocated, and 73 households had their land partially reclaimed. In Nha Be district, 6 households were partially cleared.

Ho Chi Minh City will spend about VND1,346 billion from the budget to compensate and support resettlement for people. Of which, District 7 alone has a compensation budget of up to 1,327 billion VND, while Nha Be district is about 18.8 billion VND.

After the investment policy is approved, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will coordinate with relevant departments and branches to prepare a feasibility study report.

The report is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025. The city will select investors and sign contracts in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Site clearance is planned from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2026. The construction of items using budget capital will begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, while the investment in the form of BOT will be implemented from the first quarter of 2026. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2028.

The People's Committees of District 7 and Nha Be District will be responsible for implementing compensation and resettlement support, ensuring transparency and stabilizing the lives of affected people.

After completion, the North-South axis road will not only help reduce traffic pressure in the southern area of the city but also play an important role in connecting key routes such as Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3 and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway.

In addition, the project will create momentum for socio-economic development, promote the connection of Hiep Phuoc Port Urban Area with key industrial parks of Ho Chi Minh City and Long An.
