Bridge worth over 700 billion VND connecting District 7 with Nha Be officially opens to traffic

HCMC - The Phuoc Long bridge project connecting District 7 with Nha Be district officially opened to traffic on the morning of December 30 after nearly 5 years of construction, aiming to "rescue" traffic jams in the southern area of the city.

On the morning of December 30, the City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) held a ceremony to open the Phuoc Long bridge connecting District 7 with Nha Be district to serve the city's residents.

Attending the ceremony was Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong.

Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works of Ho Chi Minh City said that the opening of Phuoc Long Bridge will create a connection between Huynh Tan Phat Street and Nguyen Huu Tho Street, contributing to improving traffic situation, creating momentum for socio-economic development, reducing traffic congestion, and ensuring traffic safety in the area.

Phuoc Long Bridge project has a total investment of 737 billion VND, of which construction cost is 168 billion VND, compensation, support and resettlement cost is 515 billion VND.

Phuoc Long Bridge was approved for investment by the Department of Transport in 2017 and officially started construction on the bridge in February 2020. By January 2021, the project had to temporarily stop construction due to site clearance problems.

After more than 1 year of drastic implementation of site clearance compensation and support and consensus from the people of the two localities, 100% of the construction site was handed over to the investor in November 2023, creating conditions for the investor to resume construction and speed up the project progress.

After 13 months of concentrated construction since receiving 100% of the site, the new Phuoc Long bridge project has been completed, inspected by the Department of Transport, approved for traffic, and put into operation to serve the city's people on schedule.

Also on the morning of December 30, right after the Phuoc Long Bridge opening ceremony, the HC1 Tunnel Branch of the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho Intersection construction project and the parallel section of National Highway 50 (from Trinh Quang Nghi to National Highway 50 Intersection) were also opened to traffic and put into operation to serve the city's residents.

The remaining parallel section of National Highway 50 (from Trinh Quang Nghi to Nguyen Van Linh intersection) cannot be completed and opened to traffic yet because there are still 8 households blocking the cross-section of the road (belonging to Gia Hoa and Khang Phuc projects) which are in the process of mobilizing land handover.

In the west of the city, the project to upgrade and expand Tan Ky Tan Quy street in Binh Tan district with a total investment of 1,232 billion VND has also been 100% completed and officially opened to serve the city's residents this morning.
