Dream of improving the living environment
Renting a room with her daughter for 750,000 VND/month near the company for convenience in going to work, Ms. Vo Thi Tuyen - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - shared that the family's living space is only over 10 square meters. She really wants to change her living environment from social housing projects, but Ms. Tuyen said that with the income of the two of them, along with having to cover daily living expenses and send money back home to support her grandchild's education, she can only save 2-3 million VND per month. "There are still worker dormitories with good facilities, but because the rent is high, we have to choose a cheap place to take care of our lives," Ms. Tuyen said.
Female workers hope that, along with investment attention, all levels and sectors also need to create conditions for workers to soon access loan packages or rent social housing at suitable prices.
Although the boarding house is quite safe and the rent is cheap, Ms. Tran Thi Be Ba - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - still hopes to rent social housing. "There is a lot of work, often overtime, no time to take the child out while the boarding house is cramped, so the child is easily dependent on electronic devices. My husband and I are looking for social housing projects that are suitable for our family's economy to change to a long-term place to live," Ms. Be Ba confided.
The female worker said that with an income ranging from 14 to 18 million VND/month, if she could find a social housing unit of 30 to 35 square meters, with convenient facilities and a rental price of 2 million VND/month or less, she and her husband would be willing to rent it so that their son could develop in a better environment.
In the future, when we have saved enough money, the family will return to the countryside to live or buy a house if we plan to live in the city long term.
Investing in and supporting workers to access social housing
