Bayern Munich opened the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a 10-0 victory over Auckland City on the night of June 15 (Vietnam time). This result not only gave the "Gray Tigers" the advantage of the first point in Group C but also created many historic milestones in the tournament organized by the World Football Federation.
Bayern Munich's victory was the biggest margin of victory in the history of FIFA's top men's football tournaments. The previous record at the FIFA Club World Cup was Al Hilal's 6-1 win over Al Jazeera in 2002.
Since the first World Cup in 1930 FIFA has never recorded a match with a score difference of up to 10 goals. The biggest previous victories included Hungary 10-1 El Salvador (1982), Yugoslavia 9-0 Zaire (1974), and Hungary 9-0 South (1994).
With this result, Bayern equalized the 10-0 victory over Anorthosis Famagusta in the UEFA Cup in the 1983-84 season. This is also the biggest victory of the "Gray Tigers" in the international arena.
This match also marked a memorable milestone for Thomas Muller when he scored two goals, bringing Bayern Munich's total number to 250.
"The stadium was packed with people. Fans were delighted with the goals. It was fun. We want to continue this. It's not like we're always so big, but we want to maintain the style of play in the upcoming games," Thomas Muller shared after the match.
The match score clearly reflects the difference in squad value and class of the two teams. Although they are the current champions of the top men's club football tournament in the ocean (OFC Champions League) and participating in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Auckland is still a semi-professional team, little known.
In the second match, Auckland will meet Benfica ( portugal) on June 20 (Vietnam time), while Bayern will play Boca juniors (Argentina) on June 21 (Vietnam time).
