New low pressure Manh Hoa, forecast of heavy rain in many areas this week

A potential low pressure area combined with the tropical convergence zone is expected to cause heavy rain, causing flash floods and landslides this week.

This week, although the southwest monsoon has temporarily weakened, two other weather patterns continue to cause widespread rain in many areas of the Philippines, especially large islands such as Luzon and Mindanao.

According to ABS-CBN weather forecaster Ariel Rojas, a potential low pressure area combined with the tropical convergence zone will cause scattered showers in Luzon from June 17-19.

Meanwhile, in Mindanao, these systems will continue to produce heavy rains in the afternoon and strong thunderstorms in the Visayas region.

The southwest monsoon is no longer active in the Indochina peninsula and is expected to remain weak until at least mid-week. However, a weak southwest monsoon could still bring some scattered showers to Palawan.

Many other areas across the Philippines are also likely to see localized thunderstorms and showers in the afternoon or evening. The capital Manila will maintain hot, sunny weather during the day, followed by thunderstorms in the evening, especially on June 17 and 18.

In another development, on June 16, Typhoon No. 1 Wutip weakened rapidly after interacting with a low pressure trough moving from southeastern China.

radar images show the circulation of Wutip extending southwest-northeast, with most of the convective clouds swept away by the trough. Although there is still a low-level cyclone, Wutip is now seen as a post-tropical system in the process of disolution.

The remnants of Typhoon Wutip are expected to continue moving rapidly northeast, moving into the East China Sea and completely losing their own shape in the next few hours.

On June 16, the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting continuously issued warnings of flash floods, landslides, and land subsidence in many provinces and cities across the country.
