Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr ended the 2024-2025 Saudi League season with a 2-3 defeat to Al Fateh, despite leading 2-1 until the last 10 minutes.
The Portuguese star opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a close-range header, thereby raising the total number of goals in his career to 936.
However, individual efforts could not help Al Nassr save the season. The team only finished in third place, after Al Hilal and Al Ittihad, and were left empty-handed in all competitions. This is the second consecutive season that Ronaldo has not been able to win a major title for Al Nassr.
After the defeat, the 40-year-old superstar posted a meaningful status on social network X, with the content: "This period has ended. As for my story, it is still being written. Thank you everyone."
This message sparked rumors about Ronaldo's ability to leave Al Nassr ahead of schedule. His contract will expire on June 30, 2025, but the team currently has no more matches until that time.
Canceling the contract early to find a new destination, especially a club with a place in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, is becoming a great possibility.
As for Al Nassr, the team wants to keep Ronaldo but requires him to significantly reduce his current salary. The relationship between CR7 and the team's coaching staff became tense in the final weeks of the season.
Ronaldo has publicly criticized his teammates for "playing like a dream" and is said to have asked to replace coach Stefano Pioli and half of the main squad.
Having joined Al Nassr since January 2023, Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 matches, achieving an efficiency of 0.89 goals/match.
In the 2024-2025 season alone, he scored 25 goals and won the Golden Boot award, 2 goals more than Ivan Toney.
This is the second consecutive year CR7 has won this title, after scoring 35 goals in the 2023-2024 season.
Ronaldo has announced that he will not retire until he reaches the 1,000 goal mark. He currently has 936 goals and with his current form, that goal can be completed in less than two years.
In the immediate future, Ronaldo will focus with the Portuguese team to prepare for the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Germany on June 4.
If they overcome their opponents, he and his teammates will face France or Spain in the final on June 8.
