Ferran Torres will return to Barcelona at the end of this month after becoming the hero of the Spanish national team with the decisive goal in extra time, helping his team win the World Cup for the second time. The 26-year-old striker's reputation increased sharply after the tournament, but his future at Camp Nou is becoming a topic of interest.
Torres currently has a contract with Barcelona until June 2027. If an extension agreement is not reached, he will have the right to freely negotiate with other teams from January next year. Therefore, the player's statements have sparked a series of speculations about the possibility of leaving the Catalan team.
When asked about his destination next season, Torres replied: "I still have a contract with Barcelona, but in football, no one knows what will happen. We are waiting to make the right decision". He also affirmed that he will return to the squad as planned and wait and see what will happen in the near future.
The Spanish striker also attracted attention when talking about the possibility of contract extension: "Barcelona needs to show me that they really want to keep me and sit at the negotiating table.
Before rumors of being pursued by Paris Saint-Germain, Torres did not deny but only said that being interested by big teams is always positive, and emphasized that he will choose what makes him happiest.
These statements disappointed many Barcelona fans. Many people believe that Torres has been too open about the possibility of leaving the team and is trying to create an advantage in the negotiation process. Especially when he has never really taken a regular starting spot since moving from Manchester City in 2022.

However, Barcelona still maintains a calm attitude. The board of directors is expected to have a direct exchange with Torres after he returns to training with the whole team. Last season, under Hansi Flick, the Spanish striker did not regularly start but still scored 21 goals and had 3 assists after 49 appearances, while proving his value thanks to his ability to play well in many positions in the attack.
The Camp Nou team still wants to extend the contract with Torres, but the new offer is likely to keep the current salary level instead of increasing salary. According to sources, Barcelona plans to postpone the negotiation time to September, after the transfer window closes, to avoid affecting financial plans.
Another factor that Barcelona must consider is that extending the contract with Torres will trigger a payment of nearly £7 million to Man City according to the terms included in the 2022 transfer contract.
Currently, Blaugrana has not received any official offers for Torres. However, PSG is still closely monitoring the situation and is ready to join if an opportunity arises.
In the opposite direction, Torres also has a certain advantage at the negotiating table. After Robert Lewandowski left the team, Barcelona has not yet found a new center forward, and the Julian Alvarez deal has not made clear progress.
That makes Torres the only experienced striker who can take on the center forward role in the current squad, thereby significantly enhancing his position in the upcoming negotiations.
