Today (September 14), after two defeats of the home team at the 2019 King's Cup, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) decided to meet coach Sirisak Yodyardthai. The meeting took place at 11:00 at FAT headquarters revolving around the future of the 50-year-old strategist.
After the meeting, FAT and coach Sirisak Yodyardthai decided to part ways after nearly half a year leading the "War Elephants". Sharing with the press, Mr. Yodyardthai and his assistant choketawee Promrut announced the decision to resign, giving the position to someone capable.
Mr. Yodyardthai said: "I have decided to part ways with the Thai national team since I was in Buriram (the venue for the King's Cup 2019 - PV). The team did not achieve the set goals and I am the one who must take responsibility. I resign as head coach to pave the way for the Football Association of Thailand to find a replacement, someone with enough skills to develop the national football team".
"From now on, I am no longer involved in any activities of the Thai Open. I also did not continue to work in the national team as an assistant. However, I will still work at the Federation. In the near future, I will go to Japan to continue my coaching course, Mr. Yodyardthai shared.
Previously, according to SMM Sports, the Football Association of Thailand was receiving many applications for the position of "War Elephants" coach from foreign strategists. This caused Mr. Yodyardthai's position to shake fiercely.
The 50-year-old strategist led the Thai team from the 2019 Asian Cup, after coach Milovan Rajevac was fired due to poor results. Mr. Yodyardthai helped the "War Elephants" pass the group stage and end the tournament in the round of 16.
However, the defeat to the Vietnamese team at the 2019 King's Cup caused Thai fans and media to lose faith in the 50-year-old strategist. Many experts say that to bring back Thai football, FAT should recruit a qualified foreign coach, possibly from Korea or Japan.
