According to the Executive Director of the Football Association (FA) Mark Bullingham, coach Thomas Tuchel has made a long list of 55 players before announcing the England squad.
This March training session will be his first time working with the Three Lions stars as head coaches. In preparation for his debut, coach Tuchel has made detailed phone calls with dozens of players before shortlining the list of players preparing for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
I think Mr. Tuchel realized early that it was impossible to build good relationships in just six days of meeting, so he put a lot of effort into it, Bullingham said.
I think he has 55 people on the list and wants to have a close connection with the players, that they know the coach is paying attention to them. Not only England players, but also overseas players, and I think that will be beneficial in the long term."
Coach Tuchel has traveled across the country to find talented players. He also traveled abroad to meet the team's pillars such as Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Jude Bellingham, looking to arrange meetings with each person.
Since his appointment at the end of 2024, Mr. Tuchel moved from Munich (Germany) to live and work in London.
I think Gareth is very, very connected and also very smart about culture. I think Thomas is that guy, Bullingham added.
"Tuchel just wants to focus all on the next tournament and really focus on the players. It's too early to evaluate, but I can say he made a great impact, so we're very happy."
