5/6 recent meetings between Denmark and the Czech Republic are unbeaten. However, the EURO 2020 quarter-final took place openly, with an attractive attacking double. Denmark took the lead in the 5th minute, with Thomas Delaney heading the ball.
In the first 20 minutes of the match, the "ghost" attack was very diverse, creating 2 more dangerous opportunities. In the 13th minute, Damsgaard escaped to face the Czech goalkeeper but his shot was not strong enough to go into the goal. Not long after, Delaney had an opportunity to shoot the ball open after a pass from Braithwaite but he shot on the knee, sending the ball off the post.
The Czech Republic's best chance came in the 22nd minute. Starting from a reckless pass from goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, Masopust passed the ball for Holes to run down and finish, but Kasper was able to close the angle. In the remaining time, Mr. Silhavy's team mainly relied on set pieces, but the players did not finish accurately.
Denmark kept a very good distance from the team and accelerated at the end of the first half, creating a series of attacks. In the 42nd minute, Maehle escaped down and passed the ball with an outer quarter, allowing Kasper Dolberg to tap the ball into the net, raising the score to 2-0. This is the third goal in 2 consecutive matches of this striker nicknamed "Ibrahimovic Second".
In the second half, the Czech Republic attacked continuously, creating 3 dangerous shots in just the first 3 minutes. With the fourth shot, Patrik Schick scored to reduce the score to 1-2. He finished responsibly after Coufal's pass. This was Schick's 5th goal at EURO 2020, equal to Ronaldo.
The Czech Republic has a much more diverse and effective attack with Jakub Jankto and Krmencik replacing Holes and Masopust. In the 54th minute, Krmencik had a chance to equalize, but he missed after a cross from his teammate.
Danish coach Hjulmand quickly converted personnel when he brought Yussuf Poulsen onto the field. With very good speed, this striker wearing the RB Lepzig shirt had 3 dangerous shots in a row in the 62, 69 and 79 minutes, almost increasing the gap for the home team.
In the 82nd minute, Denmark had a great chance to increase the gap to 2 goals, when Maehle ran down to face goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik. But he shot past Vaclik instead of passing to his teammate in a more favorable position.
In the remaining time, Denmark played very solidly to successfully defend their 2-1 victory, to win a ticket to the EURO 2020 semi-finals. They are continuing to aim for a happy ending to their fairy tale.
